There are a number of technologies that can be used for metabolite analysis. The most common are NMR spectroscopy and MS; a comprehensive comparison of these two technologies can be found in Chem Rev Soc (2011) 40: 387-426. Ultimately, you will choose based on the types of metabolites you are interested in and availability of instrumentation.

NMR Spectroscopy

The University of Alberta is home to the National High Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Centre (NANUC, [1]). The team at NANUC can assist you in experimental design, sample handling, and analysis.

Chenomx Inc specializes in quantitative analysis of 1H-NMR spectra [2]. You can consult either the team at NANUC or Chenomx directly to learn about spectrum analysis.

Mass Spectrometry

The University of Alberta is also home to a number of Mass Spectrometry resources. Please contact Dr. Liang Li [3] or Dr. David Wishart [4] for details.
